The Importance of Sensory Play
All throughout early childhood little ones use their senses to explore the world around them. The most common senses are: sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. But there are actually two more equally important senses that humans use to understand the world around them: vestibular (movement), and proprioception (your body's ability to know where it is). Sensory play is a way to activate and stimulate a child's senses. Sensory play helps little ones to safely begin to make sense of the many new things they learn each day.

Stop Body Shaming
Billie Eilish regularly chooses to wear over-sized baggy clothing to protect herself from being sexualized. A few days ago, paparazzi snapped candid photos of the 18 year old in oatmeal colored shorts and a camisole taking a walk in LA. Sounds like a regular girl taking a walk in a regular outfit, right? Well the internet blew up with the sharing of the rare photo and bodyshamers quickly took to social media to comment on her body and her size...again.

Mom Guilt
With motherhood comes the natural inclination to take care of and desire all the best for your child. However, mom guilt is the unwanted, intrusive thoughts that create doubt, anxiety, and uncertainty concerning decisions relating to motherhood. Just like all feelings, these feelings of guilt come and go and can be the cause of a number of different factors. Society, personal insecurities, lack of trust in one's self, pressure from family or friends, social media, and/or many other factors can play into why a mother may feel guilt about how she chooses to raise her child. Even though it is common for a mom to experience "mom guilt," it's not impossible to beat!

Racial Microaggressions
Microaggression can be defined as: "a comment or action that subtly and often unconsciously or unintentionally expresses a prejudiced attitude toward a member of a marginalized group (such as a racial minority)," according to Merriam Dictionary. The problem with racial microaggression is that it can be confusing and hard to understand, especially when a comment is so subtle. Shedding a light on racial microaggression will give both sides a better understanding of what really goes on and pin down the issue to prevent the continuation of racism.

The Songs in my Mind
We have all had a moment where we are listening to a song and we have had to really stop and listen because the lyrics begin to seemingly speak directly to us. Maybe the lyrics in a song relate exactly to what we are going through or simply make us feel the most like ourselves. Below are a few beautiful lyrics from songs that I have heard recently that simply make me feel like me.

Remove the Confederate Flag
Whether or not to remove the confederate flag has been a debate for years, but with recent events, it has become a spotlight topic once again. This debate is touchy and controversial and those who debate seem to stand either strongly for the flag or strongly against it. Some Southerners believe that the confederate flag is part their childhood and history itself. But on the other hand, those fighting to remove the flag claim it is a symbol of oppression, slavery and hatred. In order to pick a side, we must first understand the history of the flag.

Postpartum Feelings
The postpartum period is commonly used to refer to the immediate 6 weeks after childbirth. During this time women experience many physical and emotional changes as their bodies adjust back to taking care of just one human instead of two (or multiple!). Knowing what feelings you may experience before going through the postpartum period is very helpful to ensure the best possible healing and recovery.

It's Okay to Not Know
A lot of times, an obsession with knowing what the future holds is really just a fear of being judged or seen as somehow less than others. But more often than not, people don't in fact know what they want their future to look like or how they will get there. Sometimes we compare ourselves to people who seem to have their lives together and know exactly what they're striving for. The truth is no one really knows what the future holds, and that's okay.
