Womanhood in This Society

Being a Woman in My Eye

I just want to start off by saying that I do not like to sugarcoat things or beat around the bush so if you are one of those people who might get easily offended (most Americans) than this post may not be for you. So with that said, if the above applies to you, then please avert your eyeballs. Thank you much!

We are lucky enough to live in a society where women can vote, attend great colleges to achieve the highest educations possible, and women no longer are forced to stay home with their children. Yes, ladies; we no longer have the option to go out and do whatever we want to with our lives. We are equal, which is great...right? It should be great, but there are, of course, still men out there that are constantly making women feel inadequate to them, which is fine because there are submissive women out there that are into men such as that. Being a woman is more than biology and maybe it even goes beyond critically looking at gender as a social construct. Of course, there are a plethora of women (and men) who challenge me on this, and that’s fine, they’re entitled. But in my construction of reality, I choose to hold onto womanhood as sometimes similar, but sometimes different from manhood. I think one of the unfortunate traits of human nature is that we feel a need to categorize people and this is evident in how we categorize women. We feel the need to use words such as whore, slut, virgin, etc. when describing each other. Which, of course, does nothing except bring each other down when we should be bringing each other up.

As women, we have to be more classy, so to speak, than we have been lately. It is true that we all go through things, such as abuse and what not, but, truth be told, women are just as likely to abuse men. The cops are just more likely to believe a woman over a man, because they are bigger. Women honestly have way more advantages and can get away with way more than a man ever could. There was a case up here, for instance, where I live; of a woman who accompanied her boyfriend in kidnapping two little girls for their own sexual pleasure. Everyone was shocked that she was involved and even after she admitted the ghastly deed, they still tried to make excuses for her. Point is that there are no excuses for women who behave badly; whether it is a bad attitude or what not. No more blaming PMS ladies, because that is bull. Women are the strongest between the two species, because we alone can withstand just about anything that is thrown at us. Some are mentally stronger than others, true. We can handle the abuse or torture and still walk away like a boss, while men would cower at most of the stuff that we have to handle. Now, I am an anti-feminist, just because I do not agree with a lot of their views, but I do agree that we are equal and can do anything a man can do in this society that we have built.

I love being a woman, because it means that I can be anything. Smart or beautiful. Funny or sarcastic...no longer do we have to be one or the other. No longer do we have to put up with being categorized into one little box or another. Times are changing and it is time that we change with them. It is not okay for men to grab our butts without permission, but we shouldn't do it to them either. Trust me, there are women guilty of butt grabbing. We all have a voice and we all should let that voice be heard!

Lately, I have been spreading my story to misguided youth in hopes that it will somehow guide them in taking the correct steps. Not saying that others should get into public speaking, but by spreading my story, I am also spreading hope that things do get better. No matter what happens in life, I think we should all try it at some point, because sometimes people just need to know that things do eventually turn the other cheek, so to speak.
