So today is March 18th of 2018, right? We still have issues that require the argument of equality though, right? In fact this month is women's history month. Just ten days ago we celebrated international women's day on the 8th. And the question still was had...

Why do we need a women's history month? Why is there an international women's day?

Yes, all these questions originating out of the mouth of a white man. It's not his fault. I don't harbor any negativity towards the asker or the question...I'm merely prefacing this notion that this is why.

Many years, decades of months, and umpteen moments ago this country was established. To the immigrant, it is the biggest land of promise--as thought our forefathers. Although present day immigrants compared to the OG immigrants, claiming a spot as their own does go a little differently. (But that is a different argument to have, on a different day.) So when these OG immigrants established this country, they had only their wants, benefit, and desires in mind. Men, white men in particular stood to take the lion's share of the benefit as they were the only ones viewed as any party to be allowed such benefit. Hold on the offense fellow feminist because somewhere between being made of his rib, woman lost her merit. She became a utility for raising a nation, but disposal after the act. She became an accessory, but never one expected to interact. Many cultures hold these same values for woman, and these women are content.

Let's talk American woman, though. She is taught, sometimes self taught, on matters that matter most to her. She teaches, she holds a mere 30% of high positions in corporate settings, and still raises nearly an entire nation. But it wasn't always this way. It wasn't until 1920 that women were trusted with the ability to go into a voting location and cast a ballot. Good thing they trusted us with small things our minds could handle, like making his food and raising his spawns.

Reality is she isn’t done claiming her own. In the short century since being allowed to vote, she still has more firsts to have. This is why we haven't yet fully answered the question of why do we need these female exclusive celebrations such as that of international women's day supported by social media.

This is why minorities, at all, deserve the celebration of being you. Despite the way this country was built on the intention of giving prosperity to one set of people, you rise. That despite existing in the face of adversity, that she dare to have the audacity to say not only is prosperity possible, but a constant demand. And if she can’t accomplish the task she will send the blood thirsty pack of ambitious she wolves she surrounds herself with to meet and exceed the task afoot.

These she wolves, she relies on provide her spirit with the sustenance needed to combat the barriers placed to deteriorate their fight. These wolves will get their 23 cents back. They will occupy more than their current 30% of positions of power. They will raise the next generation of she wolves to proudly say no. And this next generation will raise the next with the same amount of pride. After all the strife seen by generations previous to her, she knows she can and will succeed without smearing her lipstick or breaking her heels.

So to the men who ask, “Where’s my international men’s day?”

She told me to tell you, “It’s everyday out side of March 1st through March 31st. Now be a dear, and run along to thank a girl you know because it’s not easy being this fierce and maintaining your image without so much as a single tear.” And to all the bleeding she wolves of the world: all the Amelia Earheart’s, all the Bonnie St. John’s, and all the aspiring girls with a timid growl in their belly that they have yet learned to howl with this month is for you.

Be the first, and the be best.
