Why I Love Being a Woman

It's not always easy. In fact, it's incredibly difficult. But there are about a million reasons why I love that I'm a woman. These are just a few.

Being a woman is perhaps one of the best things that have ever happened to me.

When I think about my life, my childhood, and my ebbing young adulthood, I can't imagine wanting to be anything other than a female.

To be honest, as I sit down to write this, I find myself having trouble finding the words to truly encase my genuine feelings on the subject. It's always so interesting to me that the things we are so deeply connected to are the hardest to describe.

Being a woman, to me, is one of the most complicated, difficult, beautiful, complex, maddening, powerful things you could ever hope to be. At 24, I have experienced a multitude of things that I believe are what it truly means to be a woman, all of which I am deeply thankful for.

In today's world, being a woman is constantly walking a fine line between being outwardly proud of being a female and keeping it nicely tucked away in an effort to keep from offending anyone or putting yourself in a potentially dangerous situation. It isn't easy.

But the beauty in being a woman today is very much intricately woven into the former part of that statement. Being PROUD.

The pride a woman is able to express today and feel a very public and overwhelming sense of support from so many other women in agreement.

Being a woman means having a choice.

A choice to stand by another woman and its impact far outstripping that singular action.

A choice to do everything that everyone said you couldn't do and mean it's breaking a barrier.

A choice to bring life into this world and nurture it into something good and different.

A choice to stand on a battle line with strangers and fight the same universal fight.

Being a woman is complex. With the birthright of being born a female, there is a guarantee of challenges, judgements, anxiety, and potential danger.

Always will a woman be at risk. But with this, the most beautiful and incredible opportunity is birthed—the opportunity to fight it.

Every day I wake up a woman I know that everything I do affects not only me but the other women around me. I know that every decision I follow through on or every statement I put out into the world and every singular thing I stand for amounts to so much more.

Every day I wake up a woman, I know that one day I could very well have the responsibility of bringing new life into the world, protecting it, and teaching it right from wrong, and essentially being partly responsible for the way it impacts the world that follows it. Ultimately, I know that this experience is unique to me and every other female species on the planet.

Being a woman means always being the underdog and fighting tooth and nail to shock the world equally as much as you impact it.

Every single day I see women building great big things, playing in great big games, painting great big things, and screaming out into the world, they give it not only to themselves, but to women everywhere.

The truth in being a woman is so much larger and deeper than this article could ever attempt to exude.

So I'll summate my favorite thing about being a woman in one very complex run-on sentence...

No matter what, because I am a woman, I know I will have a family somewhere in the form of other women of every shape, size, language, and color, hand-in-hand, bonded together and standing there, waiting for me.

I love my womanhood for all of these reasons and more, and celebrate it each and every day.
