Why Ariana Grande is Changing the Status Quo of Women and Mental Health

If you follow pop culture, you will have noticed that most of Ariana Grande’s life has been circling the news headlines. This poor woman cannot catch a break. Let’s review all that she’s been doing to promote positive mental health, despite being in the darkest of days.

Ariana Grande recently released her new album, Sweetener, and just announced her US Tour dates for the Sweetener World Tour. Her career is skyrocketing right now and she deserves to be recognized beyond the mere fact that her and Pete Davidson have split. She’s silently advocating for a positive mental state of mind and honing in on her womanhood, all while being independent working on getting better.

I want to first touch base on what kind of traumatic experiences Ariana has gone through over the past few years.

The Manchester Bombing

After an Ariana Grande concert in Britain’s Manchester Arena, a suicide bombing took place. It killed 22 people and left hundreds injured. The mere fact that it was Ariana’s concert can be triggering in any way, shape, or form, and can result in PTSD or anxiety. It is not easy to have to sit and think that an event such as a bombing could that have been your fault. The people who support you and love your music, were gathered for a memorable night that ended in tragedy. This was in no way Ariana’s fault and it never will be. I cannot speak for her, but if I were her, I would have been traumatized as well.

She did right by those involved by hosting her fundraising concert which raised over $13 million dollars. But even though this fundraiser helped pay for medical bills and damage, it doesn’t take away any toll it could have taken on her mental health.

Mac Miller

Ariana was with late rapper Mac Miller for two years. As someone who grew up with these two, this was the relationship of the century. We followed Mac and Ariana’s relationship through it all. However, all relationships have their bumpy roads, and unfortunately Mac fell defeated from what the common trend seems to be. Mac suffered from poor mental health and addiction. Though still not Ariana’s fault, it is hard to see the person you love suffer through something like this. We know that she did the best that she could to support Mac and his mental health, she was there when he tried getting help, and there for him time after time, until it was too much.

At some point in a relationship where a person becomes too toxic, you have to look out for yourself. Ariana did just that. She didn’t abandon Mac and she certainly did not leave out of spite for him. Ariana supported him through everything and unfortunately, the addiction took Mac’s life. Losing a loved one is never easy and losing someone who has been through so much with could not be any easier. You have to give yourself time to have remorse and conquered the emotional imbalance your body faces when not being able to contact someone, or just knowing their presence is still on earth with you.

Pete Davidson

Pete and Ariana’s relationship was unfortunately the victim of the famous quote ‘right person, wrong time’. Ariana Grande called off their relationship in what I honestly believe was an act to better herself, and to be the best self she can be. I do give her props, and I will explain why later on. I don’t want to talk too much about the relationship because again, I am not her. I do not know what she is going through and this relationship has been in the news for too long. Leave them alone.

Advocating Her Mental Health

Ariana girl, you are my hero, I want to put that out there first. She is going strong and doing the best she can. Ariana has been in the studio since she called off her engagement, and has been celebrating her life and just working on herself and her work. She’s been praising her fans on social media and has been open about how she’s been doing. She’s spending time with her friends and family and just honestly trying to be as happy as she can. Heartbreak, loss and anxiety are not easy emotions to handle.

One of my favorite songs of Ariana’s is "Get Well Soon." It emphasizes how we can feel alone sometimes and that the rest of the world may not get why we feel the way we do. She talks about taking on too many emotions and tasks of everyday life. The melodies praise to be around people who love you and exude positivity and that it IS okay to be sad or feel emotions other than happiness. But, it also preaches that you have to take care of yourself and talk about what is going on. Be open and honest about what you are going through so that you can get help and try getting better.

Without having to do much, Ariana is helping people all over the world understand mental health and how important it is. Life is hard, and the choices we must make to ensure we are doing what is best, can be even harder. She has had to make decisions none of us could ever imagine having to do. We all want to be rich and famous, but we take for granted not having to be in the spotlight and maintain a presence of positivity 24/7.

Ariana girl, if you’re reading this, HMU sometime. Let’s chat. Come on my podcast and let’s talk about how it is okay to not be okay.
