Things that Men Think Are Chivalrous

What Some Women Actually Find Annoying

I do not mind the idea of chivalry. However, I do think society has put such an emphasis on men being chivalrous that it has lost its value and can be annoying. Most of the time men do not realize they are acting in a way that makes women feel less valuable because they "are trying to be chivalrous."

  1. Protecting Women's "Delicate Ears." When people stop talking in front of me because "a lady is present" is annoying. If I do not like the conversation, I will either tell you or just leave. However, do not insult me by saying that I have delicate ears.
  2. Not letting me do things on my own. This can get annoying. Just because I am short does not mean I am incapable of lifting things. If I need help, believe me, I will ask. So please, if you want to help, just ask.
  3. Getting into a fight to defends a "women's honor." Look, drunk people exist. If someone makes a pass at me, do not assume I want you to go beat them up. Either move on or politely have a conversation. I do not want to explain to the police why two guys are beating each other up. Thanks.
  4. Holding the door open for a women when they are super far away. Thanks for the effort, but know the distance. If I am super far away, I do not want to feel obligated to start running so you can hold the door for me. Plus, if I am carrying something and far away, just go in the dang door. Also, what if I am not even going through that door? Awkward for you. Awkward for me.
  5. Not letting a women hold the door. If I am at the door before you and I hold it for you, please just go through the door. It is awkward if you just stand there while the door is open. I do not want to dance around you, so you can hold the door open for me. Please. Just. Go. Through. The. Door.
  6. Taking things out of women's hands. I do not know who taught you that just randomly taking things from women is okay, but it is not. Again, if I need help carrying something I will ask. Please do not assume that I cannot carry things.
  7. Not doing the same thing for men. Most chivalrous acts are sexist if you think about. We should be nice to all people and treat them the same. It is 2019. Get it together.
  8. Insisting on 'helping' even after being turned down. If you ask me if something is to heavy and I respond, "No, I got it. Thanks." Please accept that and leave. Do not try to take it from me.
  9. Opening car doors for no reason. So, this can be cute and depending on the girl, it can be sweet and impressive. If it is the first date or some fancy occasion, then open the door. However, if we are going to the grocery store and I am in my sweats, please do not open the car door for me. It looks funny when you have to walk around. Plus, other cars want our spot, so just stop.
  10. Ordering for women at restaurants. This reminds me of the movie White Chicks when the man orders a salad. Yeah, it is two men, but still. Do not assume that I want just a salad. I know my stomach better than you and chances are if I only get a salad, I will be bugging you an hour later saying that I am hungry
