feminism
At its core, feminism is the simple conviction that women are equal to men in every regard, and should be treated as such.
A cloud shaped like the Queen
Today the Queen has passed, and I happen to be on English soil. Despite not being British, I felt a knot form in my stomach as I heard the news from my mother-in-law's mouth. She rushed down the stairs from her bedroom, where we had just been wondering what would happen if the Queen passed, whether the throne would go through Charles, or, since he is already in his 70s, fall directly to William. Among other stories and anecdotes, Lou told me the Queen had decided to hold on to her office for as long as possible, among other reasons, because she wanted to shelter her family from the burden of the crown. We mentioned Diana in passing, Meghan, Andrew, and all the contemporary scandals and agreed on the stoicism and class with which her Majesty had endured them all. My like or dislike of monarchies aside, Elizabeth II was a remarkable figure, and I cannot help but admire the grace of a woman whose life was publicly scrutinised and discussed as much as hers was. Not half an hour later, the news came.

There is nothing more appealing to middle-aged men than the younger woman. Beauty, eloquence, style, and success are meaningless when compared to youth and perceived innocence.
I'm Terrified of Birth Control
Regardless of the fact that humans assigned female at birth are only fertile for a whopping 48 hours in one cycle and can only carry a pregnancy to term once per year while humans assigned male (given they have a normal sperm density) are fertile 365 days a year, the responsibility of birth control falls onto the prior group. Whether that be the pill, the patch, intrauterine device, injection, vaginal ring, implant, etc. there are so many (over 99% effective) ways to prevent pregnancy based on correct use. Some of them even last for over 3 years! Perfect for the on the go girl boss who doesn’t always have time to remember to pop a pill.

Women as a collective have come a long way since the early 1900s. However, there are still many challenges that we may face in the day to day of our lives. While it is claimed that we have equal rights with men, there are still those who will treat us differently and who have different expectations from our gender.
Come on girl, it's just fun
-- 1989 graffiti on the University of Western Ontario campus after Mark Leppina killed 14 women in Montreal The Canadian novelist Margaret Atwood once asked a male friend why men felt threatened by women. He replied, "They are afraid of being laughed at by women." Atwood then asked a group of women why they felt threatened by men. They replied, "We are afraid of being killed."
How do you view Japan's legal form to encourage women to become housewives, for example, the husband's salary will increase if his wife is a housewife, but will increase taxes?
So far, many tax policies in Japan have indeed indirectly made women tend to be housewives, intentionally or unintentionally.
A Dame's Dichotomy
Maybe I'm dramatic. Maybe I have feelings too big for my own good. Maybe I'm unstable and frantic and sensitive and one light breeze away from toppling completely over.
Why Feminism Fuels Patriarchy
Wisdom is often collected in the moments that we choose to walk away from something, in other words, when we concede to the natural death of an idea. At the budding age of 23, I felt completely lost after leaving my Christian based religion. I remember feeling disillusioned and cynical towards the church. The experience that I had while departing from my conservative Christian days is not unlike the experience that I had walking away from feminism. Feminism, similarly to religion, is a particular set of beliefs about the world, that points us toward individual and collective actions, in hopes of creating a better world. I won't analyze the problems with the collective action that religion has taken to "create a better world," mostly because religion has done quite the opposite (but that's for another article.) But I would like to dive into the reasons that I believe the world is ready for a new system of thinking, beyond the capacity of our current form of feminism.
The Shame of Shaming
The last thing I want to do is try and make what is going on in the world about me... trust me, I wish it had nothing to do with me, but low and behold, I am a woman, so it does, and I simply cannot hold it in any longer.

I was raised deep in the Appalachian mountains, a small podunk town that mostly had more trees than people and churches than stores. A place where fun consisted of driving late in the evening to nowhere in particular while you listened to music and ate Dairy Queen with whatever person was in the mood to join you.
