Rebel Wilson and Anne Hathaway Scam Men in New Trailer 'The Hustle'

Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson have joined forces and will soon hit the big screen in The Hustle, a film featuring two badass women who swindle wealthy men out of massive sums of money.

Why? Just for the heck of it.

The film is said to be a reiteration of Frank Oz's 1988 Dirty Rotten Scoundrelsthat previously starred Steve Martin and Michale Caine.

In this adaptation, Anne Hathaway portrays a skilled scammer and guide to Rebel Wilson in her "sugar baby skills," which include everything from knife-throwing to subtly blending in with the crowd.

The particular subject of interest in this film is a young, male billionaire. In teaming up, the wealth-seeking duo has one rationale and one rationale only: because they freaking can.

The release of this film and recent others featuring strong, action-oriented female characters (such as Ocean's 8, for example) begs a well-deserved question: why now?

Why now have all of these female-led action films hit the big screen? We honestly have no idea why it's taken so long, especially women are seemingly meant to be con-men... sorry, con-women! (THAT'S RIGHT.)

While we're used to sluthy and sneaky men playing both the con-man and the valiant hero in nearly all action movies, the time has come to shed some light on the true ideal con artist—the woman.

A choice line in the film reflects the precise answer to not why women are better suiting for conning, but a plethora of age-old questions on the patriarchy:

Anne Hathaway's character asks, "Why are women better suited for the con than men?"

"Because no man will ever believe a woman is smarter than he is."

[PREACH IT, SISTER.]

Hathaway recently earned her action-movie tiger stripes in the above mentioned Ocean's 8, a roll with which she shocked and dazzled with a surprising twist in the movie, one that we shall not reveal to those who haven't yet seen.

Wilson, however, continues her ever-hilarious and wildly entertaining humor and comedy with her character complimenting the duo nicely.

While we're all thrilled to see how the combination works together to deliver a phenomenal production, we're even more excited about what this film means for women in the industry, and everywhere else.

It's uncommon that anyone truly associates action film or action anything with women unless the women in the film are being hyper-sexualized or categorized as the love/sex interest of the film.

With this new wave of female-lead action films, it's safe to assume the Kim Possible's and Harriet the Spy's of the world are quaking.

Even though women are breaking down barriers of many kinds, the general association with action movies for the majority of people is with excessive physical activity and physically taxing scenes. Something that isn't automatically associated with women and females.

*unanimous eye roll*

These films, though garnished with a relatable and cutsie comedic tier, may very well be blazing a trail to some degree.

Women in the entertainment industry have expressed their discontentment for a lack of accurate female representation in films, award shows, and more. A perfect example of this being the recent exposure of Recording Academy president Neil Portnow who received criticism for the low number of women represented at the 2018 Grammy Awards.

So what impact does this type of film have on the female community?

Aside from showcasing more female-leads in a film who aren't the subject of chaos, AKA the "damsel in distress" role, it also sets the industry up to make more films with women at the center point of attention.

To put it plainly, it will likely induce more films with women that don't feature a male love interest, a commonality of films with female leads, ultimately watering down the strength of the lead female role.

While we're thrilled simply to see more Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson alone, the furthering of awesomeness for women is an added plus. ;)
