If you're a woman like myself, I'm sure you can nod your head in agreement that being a woman is never easy. Especially when Aunt Flo pops in once a month for a visit. Here are a few tips and tricks to having a much happier period. Not to mention a much happier ending when it comes time to pop open the champagne as soon as Aunt Flo leaves. At least for another month. Here are some surival tips to make your visit with Aunt Flo more tolerable and much less expensive.

Exercise and vitamin D are a great way to relieve cramps

When Aunt Flo drops in for a visit, make sure to try and enjoy your time together. Getting fresh air and exercise is a great way to relieve the stress and pain of PMS. If your like me, (especially on heavy days) I tend to stay inside eating large quantities of ice cream and potato chips with little interest of going out. Even taking a short walk and taking in the fresh air and the sun on your face, will do a world of good. For your physical and emotional health. As motivation to get moving, just think of all of your favorite treats that will be waiting for you when you return. A good romantic comedy can also be a great way to relieve the stress of PMS.

Make time for you

Having time to yourself is another excellent way to deal with Aunt Flo. Wear dark clothing in case of any unexpected and embarrassing leaks. If you are on the go, bring a light red or black to tie up around your waist. Be kind to yourself. Try to rest and reduce stress. Drinking water and camomile tea is another effective way to relieve muscle pain caused by PMS. If you really don't want to go out for a quick walk, open as many windows as possible to get some fresh air and your dose of vitamin D. If you have any hobbies like writing or crafts, use this time time to unlock your creative side. This can also make for the perfect distraction from Aunt Flo.

Eat healthier

Comfort food is good in moderation to help reduce stress and anxiety caused by PMS. Eating too much junk food can make you feel more bloated and tired. Eating fresh fruits and vegetables is a great way to help you stay focused and alert during a busy day. Not to mention the bloating and cramping will be less intense. Fruit smoothies are also a great way to maintain a healthy lifestyle as well.

Maxi pads V.S Tampons

On heavier days, when Aunt Flo sneaks in, greet her with open arms with leak guard maxi pads as opposed to using tampons. This may be uncomfortable for a couple of days but you'll be glad when the clean up and mess is reduced by the time Auntie Flo bids a farewell. Not to mention saving alot of money from having to replace any soiled garments and linens Aunt Flo left behind. On lighter days tampons are not as bulky and give you the freedom to do more. Swimming is also a great way to relieve PMS. If you have a nearby public pool, go for a swim to help you relax. Hot tubs and saunas are the best for cramps. Last but not least, keep track of when Aunt Flo is due for another visit by marking your day planner or calendar with a red dot. This way, you will be prepared for battle. Making your next visit with Aunt Flo more bearable. Oh and just in case of any unexpected spills, SOS pads and Resolve carpet cleaner are great stain removers!
