Talia DevoraPublished 3 years ago in VivaWhy Is It So Expensive
I ask myself this question over and over. Why is it so expensive to be a woman? May I ask how often you shop for being a woman? Personally, my biggest expense is weekly food to buy ingredients for the Mediterranean diet. Atleast I am being healthy and not growing to be a burden.
Leiann Lynn Rose SpontaneoPublished 3 years ago in VivaThe Pressures of Being a Woman
For a long time, I thought that I was going to get married and have a few kids but as time went on I started to realize that I don’t want that for myself; I am one of those people who realized early that marriage and kids were not for me and that is OK. I have come to the conclusion that having kids and a husband or wife is not in the cards for me; I like my space and I like being able to do things for myself and not have to worry about other people. You see the commercials for the wedding rings and the pregnancy tests and you start to think if maybe there is something wrong with you because you don’t have that urge to go out get those things. Being a woman is hard enough without feeling like I have to change my whole world to fit some societal norm that states that having a family will somehow complete me as a person, I don’t have time for that.
Brittney MckinneyPublished 3 years ago in VivaThe Infamous Debate On Pubic Hair Removal For Women
In These recent days and times, there is so much controversy surrounding this particular subject of pubic hair and vagina hair removal as a whole. In particular, the buzz is mostly centered around or about whether or not the hair in this very private area(Vagina) should or should not be removed at all, or should not be completely removed if at all being removed. If the final decision to remove Female pubic hair(vagina hair) is made, just how much should actually be removed as said earlier? Is just a little trim sufficient? Should the bikini line as well also be free of unsightly, coarse and black curls? Or should a woman just jump on the bandwagon all out go for the much-hyped Brazilian wax or complete shaved out option?
The Not So Wonders Of Woman-hood
If you're like me, with two x chromosomes, more than likely you've had a period. You never know when the demon within will first rear its ugly head, some young women get it young as eight while others won't until thirteen or later.
Crystal C.Published 3 years ago in VivaWomen's rights are human rights
As I mentioned previously, I've been taking a course on International Global Women's Health from Stanford University via Coursera with Professor Ann Firth-Murray (See previous essay on "Fear of Afghan Women.") The course surveys a swath of topics related to International Women's Health and their Human rights, including Women and Education, Gender-based violence, Maternity and Reproductive Health, Sex Trafficking, War and Refugee women, aging, women and economic empowerment and FGM (female genital mutilation) and child marriages. While I highly recommend this course to anyone who is open to learning about women and women's rights as human rights issues, this course has left me aghast at the complexity of issues surrounding women and also frankly, outraged.

Anthology of Ancient Heroines
Who was she? With the relatively recent discovery of oracle bones, we know quite a bit about Fu Hao’s life. So what are oracle bones? Royalty would pose a question to the ancestors and deities during a divination ceremony. A high priestess, such as Fu Hao, or the king would inscribe the question on a tortoise shell. Then the bone would be baked in a fire until it cracked. The high priestess would interpret the cracks as a way to answer the question. Three thousand years later, 19th century farmers would find many of these bones buried together and the people referred to them as dragon’s bones. They were thought to have healing powers. So much so, that people would grind them into powder and consume them as a remedy for malaria. It wasn’t until around the Boxer Rebellion in 1899 when a famous scholar, Wang Yirang, had been prescribed dragon’s bone and recognized the inscriptions on the bones. Suffice to say, many questions posed by royalty of the Shang Dynasty to their ancestors and deities were unfortunately later consumed and lost forever. To date, Around 5000 unique characters have been discovered on the bones that still remain, but only one third have been deciphered. These bones offer a rare glimpse into the day to day tasks, concerns, and beliefs of royalty at the time of the Shang Dynasty.
Jennifer ThomasPublished 3 years ago in VivaReal Life Tips For Women In A World That Doesn’t Do Enough To Protect Us
In my youth, the word “rape” just wasn’t something you heard of very much in the small towns of the sleepy South. I can still remember when we would go to sleep or go into town and leave our doors unlocked. We didn’t worry about someone coming into our home and doing unspeakable things.
Kassondra O'HaraPublished 3 years ago in VivaYou Would Be Shocked Why Women Have Affairs
Lately, I’ve been feeling guilty over something I did a long time ago. My boyfriend and I get along so well. We have so much fun together — laugh at the same things, and he really loves and cares about me.

We Need to Teach Our Daughters They Are Enough
When I was five, my grandfather tried to convince me that men were superior to women. I don’t remember this, being so young at the time, but my mother has since recounted the story to me. I was standing there, looking up at my beloved grandpa with wide eyes, nodding along when she walked in and heard what he was saying.
