We're not alone - and it's about time.

I’m new to writing like this. I’m new to writing paragraphs and stories and sharing them. As a songwriter, I’m used to writing lyrics, poems, and participating in the occasional free-write exercises, but nothing like this.

I’m stretching out a little. Some of you might know me because of Nashville Offbeat. If that’s the case, I’m so glad you’ve followed me to this platform! While I love writing about so many creatively amazing humans in the music industry, I want to write about something else I’m passionate about. I’ve been toying with the idea of writing specifically for women for a while now and after the #metoo movement on Facebook, I feel it’s the perfect time.

So many women, myself included, have fallen victim to sexual harassment, abuse, and have undergone circumstances that some men only see in movies or read about in books. With the #metoo movement, we saw that our friends, sisters, mothers, and coworkers have all been touched by simply grotesque situations. We all recently woke up and stopped being ashamed about experiences out of our control. We’re not alone, and it’s about time.

This is where I want to come in. I want to tell your stories- and my own. I want to write about the women who have been through hell and have come out on top- because that’s what makes us the incredible and beautiful pillars of strength that we are.

This is not only for the #metoo movement. It’s for anyone.

If you’ve struggled with addiction and have been sober for a year now, or if you grew up in a bad part of town, and now make a living off of your art — it’s for you.

If you’ve been catcalled on the street, if you’ve struggled with depression, anxiety, an eating disorder, (or all of the above) — it’s for you.

If you don’t feel that your experience was valid because it wasn’t as horrendous as someone else’s — it’s for you.

Let’s talk about it! Let’s get it all out in the open. I hope to create a place where you feel safe and understood. Eventually, I want this blog to become a place you can come to gain inspiration and validation. I want you to see that other women are living and thriving despite their circumstances. I want you to take their strength and apply it to your own life.

So that’s it. You know how to reach me. We can get a coffee, have a phone call, or you can email me to tell me your story. I’ll tell your story and I’ll be as open or anonymous as you’re comfortable with. I won’t ever pass judgement, nor will the readers of this page. We’re all in this together, and we all need to learn to lift one another up because that’s how we thrive and grow.
