But Somebody Should Be

Capitalism and patriarchy played, and still play, a major role in sex inequality. However, some Marxists would argue that patriarchy, the unequal power relationship between men and women, has been around long before capitalism. Therefore, how could capitalism play a role? Easy, capitalism is controlled by private owners for profit instead of the sate. Which means, like capitalism’s private owners, the men of high stature in a patriarchal society are the “controllers” of the inequalities happening between the sexes. As these men continue to obtain power, the inequalities between females and males continue to grow, as do the generations to fuel capitalism. Socialist-feminist theorists say that patriarchy reenforces the idea that women are to be housewives and mothers, while capitalism reenforces the idea that men are to be the breadwinners of their families. They say, the division of labor, as it were, brings the private-domestic, and public-economic spheres into contact.

Many factors like, the patriarchal society, condition you to believe that women should stay at home. These ideals have caused the unfairness of the distribution of jobs for women. If a woman gets a chance to go out into the working world, they are often “treated” with emotionally laborious jobs. Emotional jobs, what are those? These are jobs that take a toll on your emotions; they make consumers happy, or delighted to be getting their services. Costumer service type jobs. Picture this, you are a business owner, and you only hired all males. Think about why that reason is, really think about it. Running a business with all male employees, the boss would never have to worry about his employees leaving on maternity leave, and not continuing their work. It would be smarter to do, in order to get all the work done. However, that doesn’t give women the experience or the confidence that they can do it all. If a women can push a human out of her, and be back in at work in a couple months like it never happened, balancing the full time work of being a mom and an employee, she’s like a do everything ninja, and who wouldn’t someone like that to work for them? However, because of reproduction, women don’t usually get picked for jobs, or if they do, they are not given the substantial amount of income they deserve. Babies, are the reason usually holding back a woman from going and getting the well-paid occupation she deserves. Or so our society claims, but actually it is the men, who want to control women holding us back.

Everyday of a woman’s life, they hear things that make their self-confidence go down. From when they are very young, to when they grow up, and have kids of their own, if that’s what they decide. For example, telling a woman who doesn’t want kids that, “you’ll change you mind,” or “don’t you want to give your life purpose?” Those little phrases hurt. Which leads to more people thinking that they can then influence a woman on what to think or to do. A woman makes decisions for herself, no one else, but why does society feel the need to say things like this. Why are there men telling women that they can or can’t have a baby. Why are there stricter laws on my reproductive system than there are for guns? Little phrases like those, might make someone think they are a fine to say because they aren’t offensive, but they lead to a world of gender inequality.
