Here’s Why I Started Wearing Men’s Deodorant

From the pink tax to the smell, there are several reasons why I switched deodorants.

We all need deodorant. We have to wear it to keep from smelling like a giant pool of nasty body odor. Remember the first time you were introduced to deodorant? “Here sweetie, rub this under your arm to keep from getting made fun of during gym.” For some people it was like a rite of passage. You finally were old enough to shave your legs, wear deodorant, and do your own hair. What an amazing time.

Most girls probably start out with those “teen” deodorants in the cute little packages. They have fun scents and don’t really do their job. Trust me, I remember all the girls in gym still smelling awful. In reality, these companies are making an extra dollar by changing the label of the exact deodorant they market to adults to reflect something fun and youthful.

You eventually grow out of the "cute" deodorant and start using something more practical. You try Secret and Dove searching high and low for a scent that suits you. You like the vanilla smell but it doesn't work well. You hate the powder smell but it seems to do the job. It's a real struggle finding the deodorant that's right for you. No matter what you pick, you're going to have to pay more than you probably should for something to mask your natural odor.

The thing I've learned recently is that women's deodorant costs too much money to not really work. I feel like I'm having to pay more for "girl scents," so I decided to stop. The cucumber scent wasn't doing a good enough job for me to pay five or six dollars for a single stick.

I was browsing the isles at Target one day, and noticed that men's Axe was half the price of women's Dove! That's the exact moment I decided I would give Axe a try. Men's deodorant must work well because I don't hear that many men complaining. When I got to the checkout, the Axe was even cheaper than I had thought. Talk about a win so far.

I got home and put my new men's Axe where my Cucumber Dove usually sits. I was looking forward to giving it a try in the morning. The next day I got up and tried out my new men's deodorant. It definitely had a "man" scent to it, but it was pretty pleasant. It reminded me of walking past the cologne section of Macy's.

To my surprise, the 48 hour Axe lasted about 24 hours. Compared to the 48 hour Dove that lasts about eight hours. I am extremely pleased with my switch to men's deodorant. Living in Georgia, the heat is too brutal to not have a good deodorant. I already feel like I smell a little better.

While I'm just one person who tested out two brands, I really feel like this is a common issue people have. Maybe there is a study out there on it. All I care about is feeling refreshed and paying less. Let's face it women, we already pay enough money for tampons and pads. I'm going to take my extra two dollars from switching deodorant brands and buy something else useful.

There is no need to pay an extra three dollars for a scent that isn't going to work. You can market certain things to women and certain things to men, but I'm going to buy the product that works the best. If that product just so happens to have a "manly" smell, cool beans. I'll be rocking that "confidently fresh night scent" from now on. Thanks Axe and other men's deodorant for working better than women's.
