Fun Things to Do Alone This Summer as a Single Woman

There's no need to be bored!

Do something artsy.

Go to a forest/beach/pretty street and take pictures. Photography can be especially fun if you're fond of the place you're choosing to photograph. Maybe make a collage, or choose another way to express what you have found. This is something artsy to do in your spare time which is not only a lot of fun but is also freeing and calming. For this, you can be creative without having to be able to draw, paint, or have any real skill other than an eye for what looks good.

Not only will this be a fun little project, but you will end up with something that you can keep. You can display your creation on your wall or simply enjoy looking at it from time to time. Use ribbon or washi tape or colours to make your collage as vibrant as you'd like.

A Fun Night Out

Take yourself out somewhere, perhaps a bar or the cinema. Take some time to do something that you enjoy without having to make conversation or feel like you can't behave how you would like to. You can order as many or as few drinks as you like and just relax without feeling like you are wasting your night. I recommend this one to everybody at least once.

It's also true that you can meet new people going out by yourself at night, but of course always be careful with this and make sure you are not putting yourself in a vulnerable position by only going to busy or well-staffed places, and not leaving with strangers.

Have a luxury day in.

A bubble bath, body lotion, and a nice perfume. Why only make yourself feel good when you're going out? Make a day of it and look after yourself. Summer is a great time to take better care of your body—nourish your skin to ensure a tan and keep your skin healthy. A key part of this is relaxation. Take the day to yourself and just have a nice time.

During the day you can watch a film or read a book. Make sure you have nothing important to do on this day so you can also turn your phone off and just enjoy spending some time by yourself.

Make the most of your garden.

Take yourself outside! Maybe find an exciting book to read, find a new food to try, experiment with something you can do outside and enjoy the weather with. Spend some looking for something—if reading isn't your thing, then try a fruit salad with fruits you haven't tried before, or if you don't like sitting still maybe plant some flowers or do some gardening. If you don't have your own garden maybe go shopping for a plant you could put on an indoor windowsill—all of these are great ways to enjoy the summer weather and embrace the sunshine.

You don't need to go to a park or find a field or live near open spaces to enjoy the outdoors during the summer sun.

Retail Therapy!

If you can afford it, a good way to enjoy yourself is to head out to the shops and treat yourself to some new things. You could buy an extra couple of things for your summer wardrobe or things for your home. In addition, during the day you can take yourself out for lunch and feel properly independent.

While a trip out is something wonderful to do with your friends, doing this alone means you can take as long as you like, try on as much as you like, and get your nails or hair done if that's what you're into. There are no time restraints imposed on you so you can literally spend as much or as little time as you would like in each shop.

A Summer Health Kick

Even if you are working full time for the duration of the summer, you can probably find the time to make healthy foods to enjoy in the sun. Fruit salads are such a good choice, because not only are they incredibly versatile and easy to make, but they are also good for you. You can improve your snack habits without even realising by including fruits you know you love. Besides, what goes better with Pimms than fruit?!

Eating healthy foods which are also delicious will not only make you feel as though you are doing something useful, but will positively impact your mood and your body. Summer is the perfect time to make this change.

An Adrenaline Boost

If you live in an area where this is possible, treat yourself to something really exciting. This might be a concert or a stand up comedy show or a theater performance... make some memories that you'll be proud of and will make you happier when you're down. If there's a local group you've always wanted to join, or a local attraction—a festival, anything like this, no worries if none of your friends want to go with you because this really is something that you can enjoy alone. Let loose and spend your time doing the things that you've always wanted to. If you can afford them then there's really no need to hold back.

Make it a summer to remember with exciting adventures for YOU. It's important to remember to spend time with the people you care about as well, but it's really important to realise that you can have a good time by yourself, without relying on other people for your sources of entertainment.
