My Personal Experience Using the Diva Cup!

The Diva Cup, size 2

I. Love. My. Diva. Cup. I can’t emphasize enough just how much I love it! I love it so much, I talk about it with other women, hoping they will give it a try and improve their lives.

Before the Diva Cup, I used pads; sometimes I used tampons when the situation called for it, but I felt uncomfortable using tampons, so I used pads. Every time I soaked one of my pads, I gawked at how much blood I shed, gagged at the mucus and uterine tissue stuck on the blood soaked pad or tampon I had to dispose of in order to avoid getting TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome).

One day, a friend of mine mentioned that a classmate of hers used a rubber cup for her periods. I put that thought to the back of my mind until years later, after seeing an ad for the Diva Cup online. I did some research and was amazed about menstrual cups. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any sold locally except the Diva Cup, which cost me $40 at the drugstore around the corner, so I bought the appropriate size, and when my next period started, I went into the bathroom with the box, reread the instructions for the umpteenth time, and struggled to get it inside my vagina for the next ten minutes.

When it was finally inside me, past my vaginal muscles, I wondered, “How would I know if it’s open? I had to fold into a ‘C’ shape to get it in!” I felt where the cup was poking out, and felt that it didn’t open. “Oh crap!” I thought to myself, cold sweat breaking out as I moved it around, trying to get it to open. After another couple of minutes, I felt it pop open, flicking against my cervix. “OK, so it’s in...now what?” I asked myself as I put a light flow pad in my panties before washing my bloody fingers clean with soap. I checked myself every hour for leaks but didn’t find any. After three hours, I pulled it out, and it didn’t have a lot of blood in it. After a few days of trying, I figured out I can keep it in for several hours without checking.

For the next six months or so, using the Diva Cup was a wonderful, yet uncomfortable experience. After using it for a year, it became much easier to use. I was happy knowing how much it can hold, how long I can keep it in, how it shortened my period from 7.5 to 6.5 days, and how much money I was saving on feminine products! I liked how it was leakproof, that I can see just how much blood, mucus, and uterine tissue my body was expelling monthly, how easy it was to clean and reuse my Diva Cup. The best part? There’s no risk for TSS, and it’s environmentally friendly!

It’s been almost two years, and I still love my Diva Cup. I love it so much, I will talk about it with any girl or woman who complains about pads and tampons. I gladly answer any questions about the benefits of using a menstrual cup to anyone who asks, if they are aware of them.

So, ladies, if you want to know about the wonderful benefits of using a Diva Cup, ask away! Do some research on menstrual cups! It will change your life for the better!
