An Apology to Every Lady Anywhere and Everywhere
This letter is way overdue!
This is an open letter to EVERY lady I know.
Ladies,
I don't care if you are my sister-in-law, niece, grandniece, a lady friend from high school, an FB friend, or anyone else. I want to offer a very sincere apology to ALL of YOU.
I have always wanted to become a teacher. On September 19, 1978, I achieved my dream. My first assignment before I was allowed to go into my first classroom was to compose my philosophy of education. I grew up in Catholic school and had some awesome and excellent teachers, God rest their souls, but I drew my philosophy from the two best teachers in my life—my Mom and Dad. I also drew upon another person who I considered very wise at the time. He had a TV show where he portrayed a gym teacher. His comedy routines were free of vulgarity. He was also very funny on the talk shows. I remember one show which was hosted by Dick Cavett and also had Greg Morris as a guest. Yes, his name is Bill Cosby. I took part of my philosophy from Bill Cosby.
Throughout my life, I have always tried to be a gentleman. I tried to treat the ladies like I would have wanted any man to treat my Mom. I held doors open for them. I smiled at them. I talked nicely to and about them. I never addressed them the way you hear today's thugs do. I wanted every lady to have a nice impression of me. In the winter on very cold days, if I had a hat on my head, no matter how cold we were outside, I always tipped my hat as a sign of respect to a lady. I consider all the females in my life to be ladies and I treated them accordingly.
While I was at church tonight, I gave the recent events a lot of thought. By associating myself to Dr. Cosby, I felt that I needed to make a major change in my outlook. The judge, jury, and attorneys spent a great deal of time examining this. I am no expert in this legal matter. I only know what I heard in the news, but the aforementioned know far more than I do. If they felt that he is guilty, who am I to disagree with them? He is guilty because the evidence and situation were thoroughly examined before they considered their guilty verdict. As a result, I am formally disassociating myself as a fan of Bill Cosby. I can no longer say that he is a role model for me and I am no longer a fan of his.
Furthermore, I am apologizing to all of the ladies I have mentioned above. I am so sorry that you had to experience this and/or any other humiliation that I may have caused you in some way, shape, or form. In looking at the cases where men abuse women, it is wrong. I cannot apologize for other men, but I can apologize for my actions. My Dad, for example, was a great example for me and I wish to make him proud of me as he, my Mom, and baby sister watch me from their eternal home. I will try better and I will continue to work very hard on it and at it. Bill Cosby is no example for me. I firmly believe that any and every lady should be treated as the queens they are no matter what their age. I will continue treating them as queens and nothing less.
Please enjoy yourselves and thank you for reading my post. I am so glad that you are a very important part of my life.
