10 Things Every Girl in Her Early 20s Should Do This Year

Or at Least Think About Doing

Here it is. 2018. And how are we welcoming it in? With the worst hangover we have ever had in our lives. I don’t even need to say tequila out loud—the thought of it is enough to trigger those waves of nausea.

University is over, our friends have gone home and gotten “real” jobs, and we have to face life as an adult. We might even have to start eating off proper plates for once. I know, right!

So, here is my list of ten things we should be doing this year (but probably won’t be).

1. Eat proper meals.

It’s way too easy to live on cereal and leftover Christmas chocolates, but our skin (and maybe our waistlines) are starting to notice!

2. Think about the future.

Sadly, life is about to get a whole load of complicated, and we should probably prepare for that. Maybe save a little, start doing a job that will be useful on our CVs one day, that kind of thing. I know, right? Yawn!

3. Ditch Tinder.

Let’s leave random hookups with gross guys in 2017. I mean, if you are swiping and finding fit guys, then I understand if you decide to keep it. I just keep getting my exes...

4. Drink less.

Not loads less, just a little less, so we can remember more of what happened the night before, maybe. Also, waking up drunk in the hallway kind of sucks, sometimes.

5. Get to the gym more.

Yeah, right! My idea of a workout is a nice long walk to the fridge. But it’s good to have goals! Maybe I will focus more on that "more sleep" thing, too, whilst I’m at it.

6. Be kind.

Something we should all try to do, anyway. Maybe try to be a little nicer to people who have to live and work with us. Obviously, this only applies after you’ve had your first coffee of the day. No one is kind before they get their morning caffeine fix.

7. Hang clothes up once they’ve been washed.

I’m still doing the floor-drobe thing, but I promise I will try. I’m sure people probably find it easier to pick out something clean when they are all hung up somewhere. Current methods are to sniff, look for stains, and then throw on.

8. Wash bras more often.

Yep, me too. Definitely need to figure out some sort of bra washing routine. Current routine is very similar to the one I have for clothes.

9. Be nicer to our families.

Remember that, as you get another year older, so do they. Don’t forget to let them know you love them every time you have the chance. Usually I just do this drunk. Should probably think about doing it sober, too, sometimes.

10. And finally, be ourselves.

There will be lots of pressure this year with new jobs, new people, and living our new lives. Don’t lose sight of why you’re doing what you’re doing, and don’t lose yourself in it all, either.

You don’t have to dive right in at the deep end and do them all. Maybe start slowly by trying one or two every now and again. No pressure. You probably aren’t going to wake up one morning and be Martha Stewart.

Have the most amazing 2018, guys. I wish you happiness, love, and success in everything you do (Enter all other cliches about new year here).

Time to go and take my second lot of aspirin today, and then I am heading back to bed.
